Vietnam Mountain Marathon (VMM) is the oldest ultra trail race in Vietnam, established in 2013. Now with up to 5000 runners from 50 nations, the event is one of the biggest in the region.
Held in Sapa, north of the capital, Hanoi, Vietnam Mountain Marathon takes runners high into the mountains and deep into rice terraced valleys populated by many ethnic minority groups, making this race both a cultural and trail running adventure.
The flagship World Trail Majors distance will be the VMM100km with 5500m gain, but 70 km, 50 km (Short Series), 21 km and 10 km trails also take mountain runners on incredible routes through Vietnam’s Northern mountains and small villages.
Alongside the great variety of trails, Vietnam Mountain Marathon is known for its mountaintop finish line lodge, where runners stay long after their finish to enjoy an awesome party atmosphere, complete with good music, fires and even two mountain top infinity pools for the ultimate recovery session.
Food is another highlight of the race experience, with Sapa offering delicious Northern Vietnamese cuisine. Cafe culture is also big in Vietnam, and you will find plenty of places to enjoy a drinks around town with your fellow runners. Most runners will also come through the capital of Hanoi, which is one of the world’s best cities for great food and cafe culture.
The historic hill station town of Sapa offers everything from 5 star hotels to rustic homestay accommodation, making Vietnam Mountain Marathon a great destination race experience.
