Today, RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town opens the entries. It is going to be huge and the closing stage of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors. But race director also made an important move: the race that gives points for the series will not be the 160 km but the 100 one. It was a mediated decision and Stuart McConnachie explains the reason.
The North Face Transgrancanaria 2024 did not disappoint thanks to its high level of competition. The third race of the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors series had victories from Courtney Dauwalter and Raul Butaci after some hard racing. In a week where over 4500 runners gathered on the Island, the main event, the Classic, with 126 Km and 6800 metres of elevation, once again served up one of the best ultra trail races in the world.
Gran Canaria Tourism has become the main and title sponsor of World Trail Majors. The name of the race series has now changed to Gran Canaria World Trail Majors after the announcement, which was made during The North Face Transgrancanaria race week, one of the biggest trail running races in the world welcoming over 4,500 runners from all over the world to the island of Gran Canaria.

With the competition level surpassing all the previous 24 editions, The North Face Transgrancanaria is back with a bang to open the season of big races in Europe. New developments have been taking place over the last few months, including the return of prestigious sponsor The North Face, as well as the inclusion of the race in the World Trail Majors series. This will be the third race in the series following the Hong Kong 100 and the Black Canyon Ultras. The World Trail Majors series is causing a stir amongst the press and trail/ultra running fans all over the world. This is the pre-race of Transgrancanaria 2024.
Black Canyon Ultras 2024 did not disappoint for its eleventh edition. Challenging, fast and very competitive, the second race in the World Trail Majors series proved to be a firework display from the start. From a delayed start caused by snow at the highest points to the arid desert landscape, we were able to see a good bit of Arizona thanks to the amazing live footage use of drone cameras. The victories of Hayden Hawks and Rachel Drake have confirmed them as two of the best North American runners of the present time.
The Black Canyon Ultras has grown into one of the premier ultra running events in North America. Playing host to nearly 1500 runners, these point-to-point 100 Km and 60 Km routes traverse the iconic Black Canyon Trail, a non-motorized national trail that features a mixture of singletrack, old jeep roads, and an old stagecoach route. The 2024 Black Canyon 100 Km is the second race on the inaugural World Trail Majors circuit and is also a Golden Ticket Race for the 2024 Western States 100 and a 2025 Western States 100 qualifier. World Trail Majors was born as a diverse, respectful, and independent series of 9 trail/ultra races around the world.
