We value teams, we value brands. They are part of the sport. Here at Gran Canaria World Trail Majors we want to give them some extra exposure. We present you the Team’s League 2025.
Even if trail runners are alone in the mountains they need the support of their brands and teams during the races and along the season. Gear, shoes, nutrition, electronic gadgets and, why not, running clubs or brands outside the sport. We welcome everyone and we want them to gain some more visibility.
For the 2025 season, the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors will introduce a team competition within each race for brands to take part in. We call it teams (Team’s League), and anticipate that most teams will represent brands but we don’t want to limit it only to brands, so everyone who wishes to gain exposure through competing in the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors team classification, this is for you.
Each race will have both an individual and team winner. For the overall league winner, the team with the best combined race results from their best 6 races will be the World Trail Majors Team Champion, 2025.
Aim: Exposure for Teams
The intention is to provide an opportunity for brands to promote their athletes and their brands as participants in a high profile, competitive, global league.
Gran Canaria World Trail Majors races will retain their own history and character, an exciting global, year-round platform that has tremendous value, reach and exposure for brands wishing to be involved in the most compelling international trail running series.
The league provides 10 chances for runners from teams to win an event title – eg. ‘Mt. Fuji 100 Team Champions 2025 – Team The North Face’, as well as the overall league standings which will be updated consistently throughout the season then determined after the final event based on performance across all 10 events.
How Teams are made?
- There is a limit to 6 on the maximum runners per team per race of whom at least 1 is female and 1 is male – and minimum team size would be 2 athletes of which 1 is female and 1 is male.
- The top 100 runners (in male and in female categories) can contribute points for their team. The 1st woman earns 100 points as does the 1st man. The 2nd woman earns 99 points as does the 2nd man. The 100th woman earns 1 point as does the 100th man. The winning team in each race is the team with the most points scored by its top 3 finishers (of whom at least 1 must be female and at least 1 must be male).
- The overall champions will be the team with the most points from their highest-scoring 6 events.
How to Take Part?
- At each race, teams must be nominated during registration by each athlete who wants to participate in the teams league.
- Each event will present the team awards for that event and the Gran Canaria World Trail Majors will publish and advertise the team standings before and after each event.
- A runner can only take part in one team per year.
- The cost to register a team is 0,00 €.
- The team manager of the winner team in each race will have to buy a beer (or other refreshment of her/his choice) for the race director.
